Fic: Learning Experience (Jared/Jensen) R
Title: Learning Experience
Rating: R
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Summary: Jared's loving his new job - despite Chad insisting he's just a secretary - in the CJ department at his university. One of the reasons? The grad student who also happens to be a TA in the department: Jensen Ackles. The problem? Jensen thinks he has a girlfriend.
Disclaimer: I don't Jared or Jensen or any of these people. They belong to themselves.
Notes: This was written for apreludetoanend for spn_holidays. I have to admit, when I first started writing it, it was when access to my internet was down and so one part of your request got left out though I'm trying to twist the story to still make it work. Hopefully, you still like it.

Sorry it took so long but originally I was working on your first prompt (and I'm still going to try and finish that one) and then I started on another prompt and finally, I did this because that last one wouldn't leave me alone.

Merry Christmas!

“To Jared and his new job—even if he knows nothing about the subject,” Sandy said, lifting her drink in the direction of her best friend.

He laughed. “Thanks. I’ll remember that when you ask me how to get around some random law.”

“Hear that? Big man is thinking that he can just give us all crap now that he’s got a job with the Criminal Justice department.” Chad raised an eyebrow as he took a drink. “So what are you going to do when someone asks a question you can’t answer?”

Jared rolled his eyes. “Guys, come on. I’m working the desk which means I’m answering phones and crap like that.”

“You’re a secretary.” Sandy nodded, laughing. “But much taller than the usual ones. And with more muscles.”

He snorted. “Thanks. I love how you just reduced my job to basically my looks.”

“Isn’t that what a secretary is for?”

“So, is Kripke as creepy as people say?” Chad demanded.

“No.” Jared shook his head. “He just seems...different. Got a sense of humor if all the talk of prank wars around the office are to be believed.”

“Nice. Then at least you’ll fit right in.”

Jared grinned. “You know it.”

“Then let me repeat this little toast,” Sandy said. She lifted her drink again. “To Jared and his new job.”

Grinning, they all clinked glasses.

“Morning, Jared.” Eric Kripke lifted a folder in his own version of a wave.

“Morning.” Jared glanced around the reception area. “There wouldn’t happen to be any coffee, would there?”

“Not anymore. Our coffeemaker blew up.”

“Blew up?”

“Long story and most of it is Sera’s fault anyway.”

“I heard that,” Sera called from one of the offices. “And it’s all lies, Jared, don’t listen to a word he says.”

Jared grinned and nodded. “I’ll remember that.” He headed towards the door. “I’m going to do a coffee run. What do you guys want?”

The sound of a chair rolling was followed by Sera leaning partially out her door. “You going to the place on campus?”

“Tall white chocolate mocha.” She grinned. “Eric, we’re keeping him, right?”

“If he’s going to keep giving us coffee, we are.” He nodded at Jared. “Surprise me. Just make sure it has a lot of caffeine. Hell if I can get through a day of classes without the rush.”

Jared laughed. “Yeah, well, don’t get too used to it. I’m bringing in a coffeemaker tomorrow,” he said as he walked out.

Sera looked over at Eric and nodded. “I like him.”

The day started off well and if anyone asked Jared, he’d say that it continued to go well. Until that afternoon.

Then it went to awesome.

Jared blinked when he saw the guy walk in and fought the urge to stare. “Um, hey. Can I help you?”

The guy smiled. “Is Dr. Kripke around?”

He glanced at the clock. “Not yet. He’s just getting out of his class but he should be here in a little bit.”

“I’ll wait.” He paused and opened his mouth to say something just as another student walked in. He grinned. “Hey, Tom.”

Again, Jared had to fight not to stare. Tom, whoever the hell he was, had a hell of a blinding smile.

“Hey, man. You here to talk to Dr. Kripke?”

Green Eyes, as Jared had decided to call him, nodded. “Yeah. I need to talk to him about the research paper and the group project.”

Tom nodded. “Hell, I got Chris in my group.” He rolled his eyes when Green Eyes started laughing. “Shut up. Why did he take this class again?”

“He needed an elective.”

Before either of them could continue, Eric walked in. “Boys,” he greeted. He nodded at Jared. “Hey, Jared. Harass anyone?

“Just Dr. Gamble.” Jared grinned.

“Well, then that’s okay.”

“Shut up, Eric,” Sera said, laughing. She made a face at him as she walked towards her office. “Or I’m telling Jared what happened at the Christmas party last year.”

Green Eyes snorted. “Now there’s a memorable story.”

“How do you know about that?”

“Please,” he said. “I have it on camera.”

Eric’s eyes widened as Green Eyes and Tom headed towards his office, laughing. “Well, shit.”

Jared fought not to laugh as he turned towards his computer. He loved this job.

The following week was spent settling into the routine of the office and Jared had to admit that he had never imagined that a campus job could be this much fun.

It wasn’t perfect obviously. Nothing was after all. But this was close. If it weren’t for students coming in to bitch at him about things he had never even heard of and wasn’t involved in (like it was his fault that the guy hadn’t started his project and Dr. Morgan hadn’t given him an extension) then it probably would be.

Still, Jared had to admit that his favorite part of the day was when Green Eyes (one of these days, he was going to learn his name) came in to talk to any one of the professors. He seemed to be pretty close to all of them.

“Jared!” Chad grinned as he walked into the office. “Tell me it’s almost time for you to go to lunch.”

“Let me save this and then we’ll go.” Jared turned back to his computer, quickly saving the paper he’d been working on. “Okay, let’s go.” Just as he stood up, the door opened and Green Eyes walked in. “Hi.”

He smiled. “Hey. Don’t mind me, I’m just here for my mail.” He quickly headed down the hall and Jared just knew that he was staring.

Letting out a breath, he turned back to Chad, who was grinning. “What?” he asked.

“Well, well, well.” Chad shook his head. “Looks like this job has been very good to you, hasn’t it?” He glanced down the hallway and then slapped Jared on the shoulder. “You can tell me all about it at lunch.”

“That’s it?” Chad stared at Jared. “That’s the big thing that you were practically blushing over?” He shook his head. “I thought you’d at least know his name. Instead, you’re all cheesy about it and calling him Green Eyes of all things.”

Jared snorted. “Yeah, well, calling him The Man I Want To Throw To The Floor And Have My Wicked Way With takes too much time.”

Chad rolled his eyes. “Dude, never tell me.”

“You were practically asking for details.”

The look he got in response said that he was delusional and Chad was clearly the smarter of the two. “Right.”

Jared grinned. “I’ll send you updates if you want.”

“Do I look like Sandy? I don’t think so.” He shook his head. “You keep your little girl gossip sessions to yourself and your little girlfriends.”

He pretended to consider this. “So, I should e-mail you about what happens instead of calling you?”

Instead of responding, Chad threw a roll at him.

It never failed to amuse Jared at the amount of junk mail the professors seemed to get. And putting it in their box and then listening to the running commentary over it was even better. He’d nearly strangled himself trying not to laugh when he’d heard the one and only Jeffrey Dean Morgan go on a tangent about the sexual innuendo in a toothpaste ad. And Sera’s explanations on what the different flavors of lip gloss must mean had been a welcome distraction as he’d listened to one student bitch to him over the phone about how he deserved a higher grade on his paper for various reasons.

“Morgan, Kripke, Gamble, Edlund, Singer, Ackles,” he muttered, putting each person’s mail in their box.

“That’d be me.”

Jared paused at the sound of the voice coming from behind him. He knew that voice, had heard it greet people over the last few weeks.

Oh hell.

He glanced at the name on the envelope and wanted to smack himself for how often he’d seen his name without realizing who it was. Quickly, he grabbed the other envelopes addressed to Jensen Ackles and turned around.

“Here you go,” he said, holding them out.

Jensen stared at him for a moment before smiling. “Thanks.” He paused. “Jared, right?”

“Yeah.” Jared fought not to fidget. He was twenty-one years old, not seventeen. He could be calm and collected.

If he were a different person.

“Good to officially meet you. I’m Jensen.” He looked down at the mail. “Which I’m guessing you already know because of the mail.”

“Not really.” Where the hell was his ability to talk non-stop when he needed it? He shrugged. “I had no idea who you were actually.”

Jensen blinked and then grinned and Jared had to wonder why that would make the guy happy. “Listen, I’ve got to go meet Dr. Morgan. Tests to grade and all, but what time do you get off?”

“Six.” Jared ignored the way his stomach jumped at the question.

“If you’re not doing anything, you should go to RJ’s. A bunch of us are getting together around eight.” His grin widened. “And since it’ll be your first time going with us, you probably won’t have to pay. It’s this rule of Chris’. No one pays for their own drinks on the first night.”

“Free beer, huh? I’m in.”

Jensen nodded. “See you later, Jared.”

“See you,” he said, watching as Jensen headed down the hall. He blew out a breath, trying to decide if he should be punching his fist into the air or having a panic attack. He considered for a few moments and then shook his head.

To hell with both of those options. There was only one thing to do in this situation.

Raid the vending machine.

Oh, yay! I'm so happy to see this, and I can't wait for more! My love for this idea pretty much knows no bounds (and secretly: it was totally based on real life events) and I think you're going a great job with it so far! I love how long it takes Jared to find out Jensen's name, and I love that you're showing him doing work, too; that's awesome!

I'm so glad you like it! \o/

*wipes brow* Whew! I was so worried since I wasn't sure if this was the sort of thing you had in mind when you gave the prompt. And I'm even happier that you like how long it took for Jared to find out Jensen's name and that you see Jared working.

It's so fun to be writing J2 again. :) I'm already figuring out the next part!

Thank you so much! And yes, more's on the way. While I'm not sure how many parts this is going to have, I don't think it'll be too long. Hopefully, that means I'll get updates out faster than I normally would. *crosses fingers* ^_^
