Fic: Baby Talk (Mary, wee!Buffy, wee!Dean) G
Title: Baby Talk
Rating: G
Characters: Mary, wee!Buffy, wee!Dean
Timeline: Pre-series for both shows.
Summary: Buffy has concerns about the new baby. Mary helps her with that.
Disclaimer: I don't own Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. They belong to Joss Whedon and Eric Kripke.
Note: I've written this in the same 'verse as a story I'm writing in response to this challenge. For this 'verse, I've messed with the ages so that Buffy is the same age as Dean rather than being two years younger than him. (And no, Joyce and Mary are not sisters, just close friends which is why Buffy calls Mary "Aunt Mary".) I've just got this image of Buffy being a shy kid who grows out of it to become the Buffy we knew on the show. This was also written in response to the FFA pairing of Buffy and Mary at Twisting the Hellmouth. Hope you enjoy and feedback's always welcome!

“Aunt Mary, Dean pinched me!”

Mary bit her lip to stop the smile that desperately wanted to appear on her face. Buffy and Dean may be the best of friends but there was no denying that they just couldn’t seem to resist annoying each other.

Buffy was staying with them while Joyce was in labor and Mary wished her best friend all the luck in the world. Having gone through it twice herself, she knew it didn’t always get easier the second time around.

“Dean,” she said, entering the room, a serious look on her face. “Did you pinch Buffy?”

Dean gave her his best innocent look but didn’t say anything and she had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. Ever since he’d been told that lying was bad, Dean had tried to only tell the truth since Mary had told him that Santa gave even better gifts to little boys who told the truth.

Of course, at moments like this it was a bit of a problem for him.

He sighed. “Yes.”

“What do you say?”

Dean made a face and Buffy frowned at him, crossing her arms. Another sigh and then he turned to Buffy. “Sorry I pinched you.”

Instantly, Buffy smiled. “That’s okay.” At that, Dean grinned and Mary marveled at their ability to go from arguing to getting along as if nothing had happened.

“Mommy, are the cookies done yet?” Dean eyed the kitchen, his impatience obvious and Mary had to admire his restraint. Waiting for the cookies to cool had always been the hardest part for Mary when she’d been younger. It still was.

“They’re not only ready, they’re on the table.”

Dean let out a quiet whoop to avoid waking Sammy from his nap and ran into the kitchen. Buffy stopped near Mary and bit her lip, looking up.

“Aunt Mary?” she asked, the look on her face suddenly serious. “What if the baby doesn’t like me like Sammy likes Dean? What if the baby hates me and Mommy and Daddy send me away so that I don’t make it sad all the time?”

Mary immediately knelt down in front of Buffy and pulled her close. “Buffy, they would never send you away. No matter what, okay? They love you very much.” She waited until Buffy had nodded before continuing. “Now what makes you think the baby won’t like you?”

She shrugged. “Marcy Howard said that the baby wouldn’t like me and she said it’s because I’m stupid and that’s why I don’t got lots of friends.” Her lower lip trembled at that.

Marcy Howard was the class bully and she seemed to have decided that Buffy was the most fun to pick on. The first time Dean had heard about it, he’d yelled at the other little girl. The first time he’d seen it, he’d shoved her and John had had to give him the talk about how you never hit girls to which Dean had logically replied, “But Marcy’s not a girl, Daddy. She’s a poopface that makes Buffy cry.”

Really, even though Mary knew she shouldn’t think it, she couldn’t fault Dean on that one. Nothing seemed to get through to that little girl.

“Marcy Howard is wrong. You’ve got wonderful friends, honey.”

“But she said not a lot of people like me.”

“I bet she’s wrong about that, too.” Mary stroked a hand over Buffy’s hair. “Do you want to know a secret?” Buffy nodded, her eyes lighting up at the idea of sharing a secret with a grown up. “It doesn’t matter how many friends you have as long as the friends you do have are good ones.”

Buffy paused and considered this before smiling. “Then I beat Marcy by lots. Dean’s way better then Patsy Neeson.” She threw her arms around Mary. “Thanks, Aunt Mary.”

Mary laughed. “You’re welcome. Now come on, we better get in there before Dean eats all the cookies.”

Buffy’s eyes widened and then she ran ahead into the kitchen. “Dean, save cookies for me!”

This is so cute. I can see it happening. I really wish they would just do an actual crossover already.

...............I'm in love. Wee!Buffy and Wee!Dean are my new favorite obsession.

You're so bad. But they're so CUTE!!!

Then I beat Marcy by lots. Dean’s way better then Patsy Neeson.

*nods firmly* He is. Especially when he does things like this:

The first time he’d seen it, he’d shoved her and John had had to give him the talk about how you never hit girls to which Dean had logically replied, “But Marcy’s not a girl, Daddy. She’s a poopface that makes Buffy cry.”

And now I want THAT story. *envisions Wee!Dean protecting Wee!Buffy*

*is so in love with you and this*

The idea of them as best friends is just plain adorable to me, hee!! And I can't even take the credit for the idea. It came from this challenge by Toni at Route 66. This is set in the 'verse for the fic I'm writing in response to that challenge. (And I just realized I forgot to put the link in the note. Oops!)

That's one of my favorite lines! I can just hear Wee!Dean calling that Marcy a poopface because he made Wee!Buffy cry and that's just not cool in his book.

*loves you back* I'm so glad you liked this! Yay! Thanks!
