What a mess
Okay, so I've totally been putting off thinking about it but I just seriously can't anymore because I might be totally screwed here.

See, I've never been in a car accident before - minor or otherwise. Thursday morning, I had the joy of my first. /sarcasm

It was my first one as a driver and in general since I haven't been in one as a passenger either. Basically, it was my first day back on my normal route to work since I usually avoid the freeways but I'd used them to avoid unsalted roads so I wouldn't slide on any ice or snow. Roads were finally clear and so I check the lane to be sure it's clear to merge, I don't see anyone so I continue and then out of the corner of my eye, I see a huge truck trying to pass me so I slam the brakes and try to swerve so I'll jump the curb because that's better than hitting him. The back tire hits my front fender and I end up on the curb anyway.

Luckily, no one was hurt but I'm missing a chunk of my fender and I know I'm lucky that the headlight wasn't damaged, just everything around it but still. Anyway, we both pulled over and while I got his insurance company and policy number, I didn't get his agent's name. Didn't even realize I needed it. And there's no police report because when we called 911 (since we didn't have a number just for the police station) they told us they weren't sending anyone out since it wasn't serious but we could feel free to go into a substation if we thought the insurance would need a report. I live more than an hour away from my work so I'll admit, I don't know where the police station is over there even though the cities practically blend together. And I feel stupid saying that I don't know what a substation is but I don't.

So I'm being told that I'm the one that's supposed to call his agent but I obviously can't do that since I don't know his agent's name. I have his name and number so I can probably just call him and ask for it but at this point, I'm just tired of thinking of it and I know I need to suck it up so that either his insurance pays or mine does but I feel stupid (again) that it took a few days for it to really hit me - I think because I haven't had work to occupy my mind - and that I'm just now thinking of this. Heck, my agent still doesn't know because the only time I've had to call him is when it's before or after hours for him. I'm hoping to cut some time out of my day tomorrow to call him but other than that, I'm just...I don't know. I'm probably a hot mess right now since I just keep thinking that I can't afford this. Literally. I just can't. I've got collectors calling me because I'm behind on payments and I can only afford to send partial payments and I've got my car payment and my mortgage still due and I haven't bought all my Christmas gifts for other people and I haven't bought groceries because I can't afford to do that either and I'm having a bit of breakdown or something.

So that's where my head's been. I'm trying to distract myself with cleaning and with fandom stuff but then it just sneaks in my head and I sit here and try to figure out what I'm going to do.

I just had to get it out and the one time I talked about it IRL, I mentioned that I hadn't gotten his agent's name and got laughed at and told "Well, you screwed yourself." and hell, I'm sorry I wasn't thinking clearly to think of all that okay? God. And now I kind of want to go and have a good cry over this because I just get the feeling that it's going to be the reaction of anyone who finds out what happened.

Also, I've got the mother of all headaches. *sighs*

So that's it. That's been my last few days since this started on Thursday morning.

I've never been in an accident, so I can't help you there, bb. But I can offer snuggles so, *snuggles* <3

Any damage over $500 really should have a police report but it's not required. Just so you know you can request an officer be sent even if 911 tells you they're not sending one, but since it would be a non-emergency (IE no one hurt) you could be waiting awhile for an officer.

As for the insurance speak with your agent first before calling the other driver. If no one is considered at fault then your insurance carrier will just cover your car and the other driver's insurance will cover theirs. Your deductible is what you'll have to pay out if pocket to fix the car and depending on how high that is should help you decide if you want your carrier to pay for it. Your monthly payment will go up if they have to pay and switching carriers won't change that for at least five years.

I was in two car accidents within 6 months of each other right after high school so I got to learn the system pretty well unfortunately.

But physically you're alright and that's really the most important thing after a car accident.

I think you just helped me more than anyone else. :) It's all sort of been thrown at me with people asking questions so having someone just lay it all out on how it works is a huge relief, so thank you. *hugs*

I'm pretty prepared for the monthly payment to go up, luckily. They got me a really low rate when I joined them (granted that was two months ago since my first insurance agent was ripping me off) so I hopefully won't have a heart attack over that part.

The fender can be replaced is what I keep telling myself.

Thanks again, hon! *hugs again*

Okay, I first want to know who was mean enough to put it like "You screwed yourself" because, honestly? I'd like to hit them a little bit. But the previous comments are exactly right. You're not screwed. I'll be honest, the accident I had, I didnt have to handle because I was what, a Junior in high school? Either way though, it can be fixed and you'll be okay. Getting the agents name is and isn't a big deal from what I understood and if no one was at fault, like Ava mentioned, each insurance takes care of their own.

You and I need to have a sit down conversation or something because honestly, if I can help at all...you let me know, okay? I can just say this one thing and that is with my Christmas gift - I hope it at least brings a smile to your face and just gives you time to just...relax.

*hugs extremely tightly, almost cutting off your oxygen but then lets go*

That icon amuses me to no end, first of all.

He actually uses the same insurance as me so if they need to figure it out, it shouldn't be hard.

You already do plenty for me and I know I'm not the only that worries about the cost of things so don't worry. And also, looking at that sentence for your Christmas gift.....do I need to shave for this? Seriously. Either way, I have no doubt that it'll relax me. :)

*hugs back just as tightly*

Sweetie, that sucks on all levels.

1. I feel like you should talk to your agent, because I know we live in different states, but no one I know (including myself) has ever had to call the other person's insurance company... my insurance company has always called them.

2. Don't feel bad about not getting his agent's name- you were under stress AND I wouldn't have known to get that either, since my insurance company doesn't assign you specific agents, you just call and get whoever is there.

3. Tell those people who said you screwed yourself that they're jerks and if they don't have anything helpful to say, SHUT UP!!!

4. It will get better! *hugs*

5. If all else fails, look at the cute baby Santa icon!
Nicole: Don't you just want to hug him? Hee!blue_icy_rose on December 12th, 2011 02:23 am (UTC)
*hugs back* Thank you so much! I think I definitely just needed to get it all laid out and have people talk to me without making me feel stupid.

Agh, and the not the same state remark reminds me that I need to send out cards still. (Way to cut it close, self!)

*hugs* Thanks again! Also, that's one of the cutest icons I've ever seen.

I'm so sorry that happened to you *hugs tight* I agree with everyone who advised just to deal with your insurance and not worry about the other guy's agent. While my insurance does assign me an agent, I'm the one who talks to him, not the other person.
Nicole: Rachel/Santana - hugblue_icy_rose on December 12th, 2011 08:19 am (UTC)
Thanks, hon! *hugs tight* I did think the fact that I'd have to call sounded weird so I'm just going to carve out time tomorrow to call my agent. I can't hold off any longer and if they need to talk to the other guy's insurance agent, hey, I 've got the policy number, they can look it up.

Also? I love your icon. Calvin and Hobbes! :)

The most important thing is that no one was hurt! That's one of my worst fears about being a driver, I totally would have no idea how to handle a situation like that either. And honestly, how can anyone expect you to know what to do if you've never had to do it before?

Accidents like this always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times -_-
Heather: Matt/Di: Kissdance_thrulife on December 12th, 2011 04:41 pm (UTC)
Thank goodness no one was hurt. That's the most important thing. As far as being screwed, that isn't true. You have a right to get the damage appraised before you file with insuarance, Sometimes if the damage is minimal its actually cheaper to pay out of pocket than to deal with the premium going up.

In the future, (god forbid you should be in another one) though I would recommend always getting a cop to come out to the scene because then you have a written record of what happened. But if the other driver seemed cool then it shouldn't be a big deal.

Hope you get everythign sorted out.

Shit, honey, I get all messed up with my computer and this is what I miss? Fuck! I'm so sorry i didn't see this earlier. If it makes you feel any better, I didn't know any of that stuff either. I don't even drive, so that's slightly pathetic and you shouldn't feel bad. A pox on whoever laughed at you. Punk ass, that shit is NOT helping. I don't blame you for worrying, but please don't feel stupid. You just had other things on your mind, and that guy probably didn't think of it either.

Anyway, I'm so glad I'm back and I can talk to you again. I'm glad I got to find out what's going on with you, and I really hope things are going better right now. I'll be here if you need to vent, and i promise I'll get to your emails as soon as I can. Love you!
