Fic: Dean Winchester: Babysitter (G)
Title: Dean Winchester: Babysitter
Rating: G
Word Count: 876
Spoilers: None. Unless you count what I mention in the warnings section. Oh, and there's some dialogue from the episode 1x04.
Warnings: Hmm...I guess just consider this one of two things: an AU or post-season 3 where Dean's deal isn't an issue and, um, Sam has a kid.
Summary: Sam goes out shopping and Dean's left babysitting.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything associated with Supernatural (unless you count DVDs and comics). It belongs to Eric Kripke.
Notes: I don't even remember the last time I wrote something that wasn't a crossover and frankly, this isn't even that good but I wanted to write it after spending the day with my friend's baby. :) But anyway, hope you enjoy and feedback's always welcome! (And, if by some chance, you're curious and want more of this 'verse, feel free to let me know, lol.)

Written for tamingthemuse. Prompt: Grovel.

Dean was going to kill Sam. He was going to rip his head off the minute he walked back into the room and damned if he was going to care. He figured that was just one way his brother could pay him back after this. He bounced the crying baby in his arms slightly.

"I'll be right back, Dean," he muttered, voice mocking as he walked back and forth. "You don't mind staying, do you?" He sighed.

To be fair, Dean had been all for the arrangement before. Spending time with his nephew had sounded like a good idea - especially since it got him out of doing the shopping.

Sometimes Dean wished that Sam had been able to have that normal life he wanted. Others, he was damn glad that he had his brother and nephew with him, no matter how selfish it was.

During those times, Dean couldn't help but feel a bit guilty knowing that the only reason he had this was because Holly had died during childbirth.

Another wail caused him to wince as he rubbed tiny circles into Danny's back. "Come on, dude. You've gotta give me some kind of sign here. I have no idea why you're crying." He'd checked and had given the ceiling a look of thanks when it turned out that Danny hadn't needed a new diaper. A bottle had been rejected with a single turn of his head and lifting his favorite stuffed animal and making it dance had done nothing either.

Right now, if it meant Danny would stop crying, Dean was ready to grovel, beg, whatever. Because he hated the feeling he got when Danny kept crying, face going red with the force of his tears.

As he walked, Dean began to hum, pausing when Danny's cries slowed down. He grinned and hummed a little louder, continuing to rub Danny's back. He smirked as he remembered Sam's reaction to him, the first time he'd caught him humming.

"Are you humming Metallica?"

"It soothes me."

Looked like Danny was more like Dean when it came to music. Which was good because that meant that he'd be able to drive Sam nuts with it when he got older and Dean could be the awesome uncle who bought him all the different albums that he wanted.

The crying had stopped and Dean let his humming get lower and lower until he had stopped completely. He glanced down at Danny and grinned when he found Danny looking up at him with eyes so much like Sam's it was ridiculous.

The kid was going to be able to wrap people around his finger with no problem at all when he got older. Hell, he already could.

"Better," he muttered, laughing a bit when Danny shifted, pushing his face against Dean's neck. "Yeah, okay and that means what?" He eyed the counter and glanced at the door, checking to be sure Sam was nowhere in sight. "Want to stand on the counter?" he asked.

Danny grinned, showing off his three teeth and dug his fingers into Dean's cheek.

"I'll take that as a yes."

He carefully moved his hands to Danny's underarms and lifted him, placing him on the counter. Danny cheerfully gurgled, bending his legs so that he was squatting before pushing himself back up, repeating the move over and over. Dean laughed as Danny bent one knee and left the other one straight.

"What the hel...heck are you doing?" Dean asked, quickly correcting himself. He didn't care if Danny couldn't understand a word he was saying, he wasn't swearing in front of his six month old nephew. He just wasn't. "That can't be comfortable."

Dean lifted Danny again, settling him against his chest as he headed into the next room. "Come on, we'll watch a movie." He trailed his fingers over the movie cases, rolling his eyes at a few. "Your dad has no taste." He shook his head before stopping, eyes lighting up. "I take it back. Your dad has some taste."

Quickly, he set up the movie with one hand before settling on the couch, leaning Danny against his chest and letting him face the screen. He glanced down when he felt a small hand wrap around one of his fingers and then snorted a bit when Danny just smiled and lifted the finger to his mouth.

"Sure, dude, just eat my finger." Dean hit play and let himself relax as he began to bounce Danny's leg with his free hand.

About an hour into the movie, the front door opened and Sam came in, loaded down with bags. He said something that Dean didn't understand and dropped the bags on the floor before getting a good look at the screen.

"Dean," he said. "Are you letting my son watch The Shining?"

Dean raised an eyebrow. "He likes it," he insisted. Off of Sam's look, he gestured down to Danny. "Look. He hasn't stopped watching the screen yet, has he? Kid's got taste."

Sam rolled his eyes and went back outside for the rest of the bags, muttering something about pain in the ass older brothers that lived to corrupt his kid.

Dean grinned and turned back to the movie. This babysitting thing was awesome.

Omygod. That was, without a doubt, the cutest thing I've ever read. *flails*

The crying had stopped and Dean let his humming get lower and lower until he had stopped completely. He glanced down at Danny and grinned when he found Danny looking up at him with eyes so much like Sam's it was ridiculous.

So precious! *loves Danny* And Dean the babysitter humming Metallica and having him watch the Shining and then Danny eating his finger (god my friend's kid used to love doing that with mine when he was a baby. ^_^)

Love. So much love.
