Fic: Tree Fun (Buffy/Dean) PG-13
Title: Tree Fun
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 990
Prompt: 022. Christmas carols
Series: A Second Time Around
Summary: Part of Dean's punishment leads him to worry about his car.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything associated with Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. They belong to Joss Whedon and Eric Kripke.
Notes: I wrote this yesterday, though I couldn't get to the internet until now, so I'm hoping it'll still count as part of the challenge. If not, that's okay. Even though the deadline is now officially ended, I'm going to continue using the prompts from this table because I love the way I've been able to use them for this series. But I'll definitely be making a note of which ones I finished in time for the challenge and continue linking from the table.

Written for the Holiday 2007 challenge at buffyxdean.

“Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree...” Buffy smirked as she trailed off, beginning to hum the song instead.

Dean turned and scowled at her. Damn Christmas carols. “Laugh it up.”

“Oh, believe me, I am.” She grinned as he turned back around. They’d already finished the shopping and Buffy had tortured him by dragging him from department to department, getting clothes for Sam, various things that Dawn and Willow had wanted, and they’d ended up in the lingerie department where Buffy had proceeded to pick out some of the smallest things in the place and then ask him which color he thought would look the best on her.

“I don’t see why we’re doing this anyway.”

She stopped and turned towards him. “Are you kidding?” she demanded. “We need a Christmas tree to put the gifts under. Where’s your sense of fun?”

He raised an eyebrow. That had to be the first time anyone had ever asked him that. “What is fun about this? I’m about to put a tree on top of my car.”

“And?”

“What do you mean and? And it better not scratch the paint or I’m setting it on fire.”

Buffy rolled her eyes. “Overdramatic much? Your precious car is going to be fine.” Off his look, she gave him a small smile.

Dean let out a breath and hefted the tree. He eyed his car and then the tree before looking over at Buffy. “Okay, help me lift this thing.” When she raised an eyebrow, he lifted his shoulder in a half shrug. “I’m not scratching the paint.”

She bit her lip to keep from laughing. Dean may hate asking for help when it came to most things but when it came to his car, he wasn’t going to risk it. “Sure.” She glanced around, making sure no one was watching, before picking up one end of the tree. “Ready?”

“Ready.” Quickly, they put the tree on top of the car and then pulled out the rope. Dean tossed one end of the rope over the tree and towards her. “Let’s get this stupid thing tied down.”

Buffy laughed as they began the process of wrapping the rope around the tree and the roof. She tied the final knot and then slid into the passenger side. She waved a hand at Dean as he turned on the car. “Drive on.”

Dean shook his head as he pulled out of the parking lot.

“Son of a bitch,” Dean said as Buffy let go of the tree. He shifted it to the side and glared at her.

“Oops.” She grinned. “Sorry. But someone has to carry the bags in.” She laughed and picked up all the bags from the backseat. “Mush!”

Dean muttered something about how bossy she was even as he maneuvered the tree through the door.

“Wow.”

Dean glanced over and his lips twitched at the sight of Sam standing there with wide eyes as he stared at the tree. “What do you think? Think we got a tree big enough.”

“Uh-huh. It’s a giant.”

He nodded, glancing down as he realized that normally, Sam would be almost as tall as the tree. He took a deep breath and then looked up, smiling at Sam. “Pretty cool, huh?”

Even as Sam nodded, Buffy was coming through the door with all the bags. “What do you think, Sam? Is the tree tall enough?”

Sam’s eyes grew even bigger. “What are those?” he asked.

“Well, some of it is your clothes. And some of it is Dawn’s and Willow’s stuff.”

Dean smirked. “Don’t forget what you got.”

Buffy shot him a pointed look. “Keep it up and you’re not going to get a chance to see it.”

Dawn snickered. “Too bad, so sad, Dean. Maybe next time.”

“Shut up, Shorty. Or I’m taking back that CD you were begging for,” Dean told her.

Her eyes widened. “What CD?”

“I don’t know. You might have to wait until Christmas.” He grinned as her jaw dropped.

“No way!” She turned to Buffy. “Hand it over.”

Buffy blinked and gave her a blank look. “Hand what over?”

“Buffy!”

She grinned. “Sorry, no idea what you’re talking about.”

Dawn made a face. “You guys suck.”

Sam frowned. “How come you want your present early, Dawn? You won’t have anything on Christmas.”

She paused and then smiled. “Sure I will. I’ll have whatever Santa brings me.”

Sam thought about this and then nodded. “Okay.”

Willow came in, walking up behind Sam and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Remember the deal, Sam. They’re home so it’s bedtime.”

He made a face and then sighed. “Do I have to?”

“That was the deal.”

He sighed again and Dean his face towards the tree to hide his snicker. If there was one thing he remembered, it was negotiating bedtimes with Sam. His shoulders shook with laughter as he hauled the tree into the living room, leaning it against the wall in the spot that it was going to go.

“Hey, Sam,” he said. “If you go to bed now, that means tomorrow you get to help decorate the tree.” It’d always been one of the things that Sam had wanted to do at Christmas whenever he got the chance.

Sam’s eyes lit up. “Really? You promise?”

“Yeah, I promise.”

“Okay,” he said, turning and running up the stairs. Buffy laughed.

“I guess that’s my cue to go upstairs so he can actually have pajamas.”

“Oh yeah. He’ll sleep in his clothes if you let him.” Dean shook his head as he remembered.

“Probably learned it from you,” Willow said, turning off the TV.

Dean considered that. “I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about.”

Willow snorted. “Right.”

Dawn dropped onto the couch, crossing her legs. She grinned. “So, Dean, how was shopping?” She wiggled her eyebrows as Dean scowled at her. “That fun, huh?”

“Definitely taking that gift back,” Dean muttered.

“Hey!”
